Strengthening Europe's Orbital Logistics: Safran Joins Forces with The Exploration Company
The partnership combines proven navigation expertise with pioneering spacecraft design to support Europe’s independent access to space.
IAC, Sydney (Australia) – September 30, 2025 – Safran Electronics & Defense, a global leader in advanced navigation technologies for space, has entered a strategic partnership with The Exploration Company, an emerging pioneer in orbital transportation. As part of the agreement, Safran will deliver its cutting-edge SpaceNauteâ„¢ inertial navigation system (INS) for integration into NYX, The Exploration Company’s next-generation orbital vehicle.
The SpaceNauteâ„¢ INS delivers unmatched precision and autonomy in spacecraft navigation, ensuring reliable positioning in the most demanding orbital environments. Its integration into NYX marks a key milestone in Europe’s effort to strengthen independent access to space logistics, enhance the sustainability of low Earth orbit operations, and eventually enable humans to be transported to space stations.
NYX is designed to perform regular cargo missions, transporting fuel, supplies, and equipment to the International Space Station and beyond. With a modular, reusable, and sustainable architecture, it enables autonomous resupply missions that will support long-term human presence in orbit while meeting the growing needs of low Earth orbit infrastructure. This approach positions The Exploration Company as a frontrunner in European space logistics.
“We are delighted to collaborate with The Exploration Company and support the success of NYX,” said Paul-Alexandre JEAN, Sales & Business Dev Manager | Navigation | Space & Def at Safran Electronics & Defense. “With SpaceNauteâ„¢ onboard NYX, Safran reaffirms its commitment to innovation, reinforces Europe’s space capabilities, and prepares for ambitious missions that will extend exploration to the Moon.”
“As a fast-growing startup in the space sector, we are thrilled to partner with an established industry leader like Safran Electronics & Defense,” said Helene Huby, Founder and CEO at The Exploration Company. “Integrating SpaceNauteâ„¢ into our NYX vehicle not only strengthens our technical capabilities but also validates our vision through collaboration with a flexible, trusted and experienced partner.”
This collaboration reflects the shared commitment of Safran and The Exploration Company to place innovation, performance, and sustainability at the heart of their ambitions. By combining proven expertise with pioneering spirit, the two partners aim to strengthen Europe’s role in space exploration, deliver reliable next-generation transportation solutions for the orbital economy, and ensure independent European cargo access to the ISS by 2028.
