What is a MEMS Gyroscope?
A MEMS gyroscope is a miniature sensor that can measure motion around a particular axis of rotation. Once it detects motion along a particular axis of rotation, it uses vibrating structures which are etched onto a microchip to tell the system that it senses a turning motion. A gyroscope can quite simply detect how fast an object, or a vehicle is rotating around an axis, measuring the angular velocity, or rotation rate. In aviation, for example, this could be detecting the rotation for pitch (i.e. pointing up and down), roll (banking the wings left or right), or yaw. In consumer electronics, gyroscopes are used in conjunction with accelerometers to detect the speed of rotation of a mobile phone for camera stabilization, navigation, and gaming. Because gyroscopes can measure how fast an object is rotating in real time, and they are small and require little power, they can be used in a variety of industries.
Trusted Gyroscope Sensor Technology Across Critical Industries

Aerospace & Defense
Used in inertial navigation systems (INS), gyroscopes ensure accurate positioning when GPS is unavailable. They are essential for aircraft, missiles, and satellites operating in high-dynamic environments.

Autonomous & Automotive Systems
Gyroscopes help vehicles understand rotation and orientation, enabling features like electronic stability control, dead reckoning, and autonomous navigation.

Marine Navigation
In maritime environments, gyroscopes provide stable heading and motion sensing for ships and submarines, even in rough sea conditions.
Industrial & Robotics
Robots and industrial platforms rely on gyroscopes for balance, motion tracking, and precision control in automated systems.
Use Cases For Gyroscopes

Platform Stabilization
Gyroscopes detect and correct unwanted motion, keeping platforms stable and level in drones, cameras, and vehicles operating in dynamic environments.

Pointing Systems
Gyroscopes enable precise orientation and alignment, ensuring antennas, sensors, and weapons remain accurately pointed despite movement or external disturbances.

Smart Munitions
Gyroscopes provide real-time orientation data, guiding munitions with high precision toward targets, even in GPS-denied or highly dynamic operational environments.

3D Mapping
Gyroscopes support accurate motion tracking and orientation, enabling mapping systems to capture precise spatial data for terrain modeling and infrastructure analysis.

Railway
Gyroscopes monitor train movement and orientation, supporting safety systems, track geometry measurement, and navigation in environments where GPS signals are limited.

INS
Gyroscopes measure angular motion to track position and orientation, enabling reliable navigation without GPS in aerospace, defense, and autonomous systems.
