ELT Reprogramming - Safran - Navigation & Timing

Let's check if your ELT needs to be reprogrammed:

Look at the identification code: a 15 hexadecimal string can be found on your dongle or on the back of your ELT.

To decode it, please use the ELT decode program.

What is the current coding protocol?*

Aircraft registration marking protocol: The ELT/dongle is ALREADY coded with the proper country code, and the registration marking is ALREADY matching the aircraft tail number.

Serial number protocol: The ELT/dongle is ALREADY coded with the proper country code, and a serial number is assigned.

24bit address protocol: The ELT/dongle is ALREADY coded with the proper country code, and the 24bit address is ALREADY matching the aircraft 24bit address.

Other: The current coding of the ELT/Dongle is not matching the aircraft country code or identity

No need to be reprogrammed.

Your ELT does not need to be reprogrammed. However, you must ensure that it is properly registered with your local authorities. Please visit here for more information.

There are several methods to reprogram an ELT, depending on the type of equipment.

When the part number is no longer visible, you can verify whether it is a dongle as follows:

1. Remove the very small screw which holds the metallic body of the plug. A small flathead screwdriver is requried. 2. Look inside the connector to see whether you can see a small PCB (printed circuit board) as per the Din12 vs. Dongle image.

The upper connector has no PCB inside: It is a simple DIN12 connector.

The lower connector has a PCB inside: it is a programming dongle.

There is no dongle in your installation. The ELT must be reprogrammed.

You can either:

Have the ELT reprogrammed by a Kannad Programming Center.
Obtain a PR600 programming kit from a Kannad distributor and reprogram the ELT yourself.
Obtain a maintenance dongle and a programming dongle from a Kannad Distributor. This pair of dongles will be used as a tool and will not be installed permanently in the aircraft.

There is a dongle in your installation

The dongle must be reprogrammed with a PR600 programming kit or replaced by a newly programmed dongle. Once the dongle will be reprogrammed or replaced, it will be used to reprogram the ELT.

Can you remove the dongle from the installation?*

Yes

No

Dongle is removable

If you can remove the dongle, then you can either:

Obtain a PR600 programming kit from a Kannad distributor and reprogram the dongle yourself.
Have the dongle reprogrammed by a Kannad programming center.
Obtain a newly programmed dongle from a Kannad distributor and replace the existing dongle with a newly programmed dongle.

If you don't have a PR600 or an ELT tester to check the ELT programming after reprogramming, then you will also need a Maintenance Dongle.

Dongle is not removable

If you cannot remove the dongle, then the dongle must be reprogrammed onboard the aircraft with a PR600 programming kit and a laptop. You can either:

Have a technician from a Kannad Programming Center perform the operation onboard.
Obtain a PR600 programming kit from a Kannad distributor and reprogram the dongle yourself.
