Skydel License Evolution

starting at version 26.3

Why does Skydel have a new license structure?

Safran is introducing new measures to vastly improve the security and the flexibility of Skydel. This change takes effect starting with Skydel version 26.3, and every subsequent release.

Does this change apply to me?

This license migration does not apply to all users.

  • Electronic license (LMX): This new license structure applies to all users with an electronic license. If you received your license by email, then you will need to migrate and can follow the steps below.
  • Dongle / Simulator: If your installation or simulator is equipped with a dongle, you do not need to migrate your Skydel license and can disregard these instructions. More information here.

Steps to migrate the Skydel electronic license (for version 26.3)

Migrating requires users to obtain a new license with the new licensing system to replace your existing license.

The following steps describes the process of obtaining your new license and reducing downtime as much as possible.

  1. Before the upgrade, open your current Skydel version (25.12 or earlier)
  2. Go to Help/About Skydel
  3. Take screen captures of all your current Skydel licenses (you will need to scroll to be able to view all the licenses) as illustrated below
  1. Go to Help/Plug-ins
  2. Take screen captures that will display all your current plugins as illustrated below
  1. Close Skydel
  2. Download release 26.3 on Safran Skydel download website (use the same password you were given at purchase)
  3. Upgrade Skydel:
    – On a Linux system, launch the upgrade using “sudo dpkg -i file_name.deb” command.
    – On a Windows system, run the executable to launch the upgrade
Note: From this moment until step 21, Skydel will temporary no longer be usable.
  4. Once the upgrade is complete, launch Skydel
  5. Click Activate
  6. Click Save to File
  1. Select where to store the c2v on your machine
  2. Submit the c2v file, license screen captures and plugin screen captures using the form below, or by email to simulationsupport@nav-timing.safrangroup.com.
A new support case will automatically be generated
  3. A Safran Customer Support team member will process your case and generate your license in the licensing system
  4. Once generated, you will receive 2 emails from no_reply@nav-timing.safrangroup.com
    – The first one is your entitlement and includes the list of your licenses and plugins
    – The second one, called EMS – License Certificate, includes your license file (v2cp file) in a zip archive
  5. Unzip the archive to obtain the v2cp file
  6. Launch Skydel
  7. Click on Activate
  8. Click on … to select the license file (v2cp file) and apply it
  9. The system will load your license file
  1. Relaunch Skydel, from this point, your license is available for use.

Upgrading Skydel on a GSG-7/8/8 Gen2

Your GSG simulator can also be upgraded with the latest version of Skydel. Most GSG simulators are equipped with a dongle, so you won’t need to migrate the license.

If your GSG uses an electronic license, then please begin at step 1 above.

How to check your version of Skydel on a GSG simulator

The current version installed on your GSG-7/8/8 Gen2 will display on the splash screen and can also be found in the Help menu under About Skydel.
